BLACK EXCELLENCE: 49Th NAACP IMAGE AWARDS

This past NAACP Image Awards highlighted the black excellence of many of our beloved melanin kings and queens for their hard work throughout 2017. This year’s show was even more spectacular because it was the first time that the award show has landed on Martin Luther King Jr. day thus many people mentioned the late leader. NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson said, “…there’s no better way to honor the legacy” of the reverend than to urge everyone to vote in 2018, and Danny Glover spoke of King’s impact in his acceptance speech for the NAACP President’s Award.  From host Anthony Anderson taking jabs at Omarosa in his opening to ESPN’s Jemele Hill discussing her Twitter quarrel with Trump, the ceremony was filled with political talk, social awareness and melanin appreciation. How befitting for this award show?
